The Deregulation Bill was given a third reading. The Bill was designed to reduce burdens resulting from legislation, and repeal legislation which no longer had practical use, as part of the government's stated aim to reduce the overall burden of regulation and to cut 'red tape'. The Bill included measures relating to general and specific areas of business, companies, and insolvency (including changes to health and safety requirements), the use of land, housing, transport, communications, the environment, education and training, entertainment, public authorities, and the administration of justice. The Bill also provided for a duty on those exercising specified regulatory functions to have regard to the desirability of promoting economic growth.

An article examined perceived physical health, psychological distress, and social support among prison officers in the United Kingdom. It said that prison officers reported poor perceived physical health and a high level of psychological distress, and that correlations indicated that, as physical health worsened, psychological distress rose. It said there was some evidence that social support from within the prison affected the relationship, but external support did not.
